FIELD VIEW PRIMARY SCHOOL

Homework

We provide a caring, ambitious and inclusive education where every child is encouraged to thrive.

Learning together, growing together.

At Field View Primary School, we believe that homework provides valuable opportunities for children to practise and consolidate their learning, develop independence and share their learning experiences with their families.

Our homework focuses on developing strong foundations in reading, spelling and maths, alongside opportunities to build confidence in speaking and listening. We recognise the importance of family time and aim to ensure homework is purposeful, manageable and enjoyable.

Our Homework Expectations

Homework is tailored to children’s ages and stages of learning, with expectations gradually increasing as they move through school.

  • Nursery: Sharing a library book at home each week.
  • Reception: Practising phonics sounds, reading matched books and sharing stories.
  • Years 1–6: Regular reading, weekly spellings, maths scrapbook activities every two weeks, online maths practice through Numbots or Times Tables Rock Stars, and weekly oracy tasks.
  • Year 6: Additional homework to develop independence and prepare children for secondary school.

Homework is issued on a Friday and should be returned by the following Wednesday.

Our Curiosity Projects

Big questions, creative minds and endless possibilities.

Alongside regular homework, we offer optional Curiosity Projects each half term. These creative challenges encourage children to explore different topics, develop their curiosity and discover new interests.

Children can complete their projects in a variety of ways, including research, artwork, practical activities and investigations. We encourage families to get involved and enjoy learning together.

Participation is entirely optional, and children are encouraged to be as creative as they wish.
